UNDATED (04/24/25) — The upcoming deadline for having a REAL ID has led to long lines and wait times outside state licensing offices. The result has prompted a group of Kentucky lawmakers seeking an extension of the deadline set for May 7th. Those without the real ID would not be able to fly or access federal facilities. The group led by State Senator Jimmy Higdon has sent a letter to Homeland Security secretary Krisi Noem requesting a delay of the REAL ID enforcement date. Lawmakers said they requested a delay because of Kentuckians who have been unable to schedule an appointment and had to wait in long lines for walk-ins.
